Background Research

Morphology is the size and shape of an organism. I have measured many different labradors. I have measured both american and english labs. I figured out that the english lab is bigger than the american lab, because the english lab has bigger morphology.
Dogs have different morphology because they live in different environments. Like bullmastiffs and chihuahuas. The bullmastiff is so much bigger for different reasons. Labrador Retrievers are considered “Gun Dogs”. American labs are considered field dogs, and are more hyper. English are calmer, and are more of bird dogs.
The labrador retrievers originated in Newfoundland. Labradors were water dogs breed with newfoundland dogs. That produced Labrador retrievers. They were not called labrador retrievers until some time after that. Labradors go as far back as the 1800’s. They were recognized by the kennel club in the early 1900’s.
We have found that English Labradors are bigger than american labs. They have a bigger morphology. They are bigger, but not by a lot. We measured five English Labs, and nine American labs. It was very accurate measuring, and a long process.

Detailed Procedure

For my procedure I used a data rable with each measurement we were taking. I would measure that and spot and write down the answer in that column. I recorded these measurements in inches. I then took all the measurements and put them into ratios of one measurement to another. Then I made a graph and found that English labs are bigger. That is how I found my answer.

Data Analysis

Conclusion

I found that English labs are bigger than american labs. I was not very surprised that English are bigger, because when you look at them you can just tell that they are bigger. They are not bigger by a lot. If you look at our graph you will see that it ended up that they were very, very close in size. American labs are known as field dogs. English labs are known for their good, and friendly behavior. I measured many dogs.

Discussion

English or American Labs? Which is bigger? Some may ask, some may think they know. I did my science fair on this topic. I measured many Labrador Retrievers. I found that the English Lab is bigger. Only bigger by a few inches in all ways. The biggest difference is the
size of their heads. The English are known for their big heads so of course they are big, and an important difference. They are big. Yet they are all different just like people. All different sizes. Some are taller, and some are shorter. So the answer to my specific question is that English labs are bigger.

Abstract

For My Science Fair I did: Which has a bigger morphology English or American Labrador Retrievers? I did this because I have an English Labrador retriever. I was curious to know which was bigger. Not many people even realize that there are two different types of labs. We took measurements of 14 different Labs. 9 American and 5 English. Our Results say that the English lab is bigger. They do not have that much difference in morphology. The biggest difference was the size of their heads. The English are known for the bulkier or block heads. The Americans are known for the skinnier and longer noses. We did lots of research on labs and found that labs come from Newfoundland. They are not that different in size and it might be arguable that they should not be two different types of the breed.
